Woodie's DIY will show you how to seal your driveway. This will not only improve it's appearance but it'll protect it from weather damage.

How to do it

Step 1

Step 1

Check the weather and make sure you do this job on a clear day. Before applying sealer, examine the driveway. Scrape away any moss or weeds between the bricks. If there are any oil stains remove these with a stain and oil cleaner.

Step 2

Step 2

Brush away any debris with a sweeping brush. If you need to remove any ingrained dirt on the slabs before sealing, apply a Path & Patio Cleaner, brush vigorously with a stiff brush, then rinse down thoroughly with a hose. Alternatively use a pressure washer to remove the ingrained dirt and stains. Leave to dry.

Step 3

Step 3

Read the manufacturer’s instructions carefully. For best results apply the seal using a paint tray and either a long pile roller or masonry brush. The Paving seal forms a clear membrane that repels water, dirt, oil and fuel spills to prevent staining and reduce weather damage.

Step 4

Step 4

Plan how you are going to apply the seal. Make sure that you have an exit point when you have finished the job – you don’t want to trap yourself in a corner! A good idea is to start at the bottom of the driveway and work towards the front door. Read the manufacturer’s instructions to determine the drying time.

Step 5

Step 5

Apply an even coat of seal to ensure all surface irregularities are covered. Make sure the coating does not ‘pond’ in surface depressions. If it does, just use a masonry brush to re-distribute.

Step 6

Step 6

Leave to dry. For best results the seal should be left overnight before parking vehicles on it or subjecting it to heavy foot traffic.
