How to Install a Radiator Cabinet

Woodie's DIY will show you how to install a radiator cabinet. This is a cost effective way to turn your radiator into a decorative feature.

How to do it

Step 1a

Before purchasing and assembling your cabinet check dimensions of your radiator and the space available to ensure the cabinet will fit. To measure the height of your radiator, measure the distance from the floor to the top of the radiator and add 25mm to allow for air circulation. To measure the width of your radiator, measure the distance between the outer edge of each of the radiator valves and add 50mm (25mm on each side) to allow for air circulation. To measure the depth of your radiator, measure the distance from the front to the wall and add 25mm again to allow for air circulation. Buy a radiator cabinet for suit those internal measurements.

Step 2

Identify the components in the box and lay them flat on the floor. Follow the instructions carefully to assemble the various sections. Be sure to lay the cabinet down on a soft flat surface to ensure it is not damaged while assembling.

Step 3

Radiator cabinets can be left free standing but for added stability you should fix to the wall using the fixing brackets provided. The brackets hold the cabinet securely against the wall, but also allows it to be easily removed for access to radiator valves in the future.

Step 4

Move the cabinet to the required position against the wall and follow the manufacturer’s instructions to mark the position for the wall fixings with a pencil. Remove the cabinet from the wall and mark where you will need to drill. As always before drilling, check for any hidden pipes or cables.
