How to do it
Step 1
Find the leak that has caused the stain and repair this first. If your bathroom is above where the stain is, check baths and showers to make sure they are properly sealed.
Step 2
Leave the ceiling to dry completely before trying to fix the stain. Make sure there is no loose paint on the ceiling; remove any dirt/loose paint if necessary.
Step 3
Paint or spray stain block on to the stain and leave for the time indicated in the manufacturer’s instructions.
Step 4
If using a spray stain block, make sure to wear a dust mask and goggles before spraying on the damp spot.
Step 5
When the stain block is dry you should no longer be able to see the stain on the ceiling. In some cases you may need to apply a second coat.
If you don't want a white finish, simply overcoat with the colour emulsion of your choice.
